By now you’ve already seen the meme.
Cleveland Cavaliers teammates LeBron James and J.R. Smith were captured in Internet infamy during Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.
With mere seconds left in the fourth quarter of a tied contest with the Golden State Warriors, Smith grabbed an offensive rebound under the net and instead of attempting what could have been the winning basket, he rushed out to near half court.
The reason? He supposedly thought the Cavaliers were winning.
Take a look at the play.
The whole endeavour robbed James’s historic 51-point effort of its glory and offered a gold mine to social media mavens everywhere.
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, were paying attention. On Friday morning they dropped this nugget, brilliantly referencing the biggest debate surrounding the organization: When mega prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. should be called up to the big-league roster.
Behold:
Guerrero Jr., of course, is setting the Eastern League on fire. He entered Friday hitting .414/.464/.691 with 11 home runs in 49 games. Many scouts believe his bat is major-league ready, but the fact remains that he just turned 19 in March and is still working out the kinks in his defensive game.
