A bill has been filed in the Philippines House of Representatives to naturalize Denver Nuggets centre Javale McGee as a citizen.
McGee, who travelled to the Philippines twice during the lockout, would be eligible to compete with the Philippines’ basketball team at the London 2012 Olympic Games if the bill is approved.
Despite being part of the pool of American players previously considered to represent the U.S., McGee has never actually played on the American national team, leaving him eligible to represent another country.
McGee is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and his contract status could have an impact on his decision to play for the Philippines squad.
