Joel Embiid weighs in on Colangelo’s alleged fake Twitter accounts

'The Ringer' published a report that Philadelphia 76ers president Bryan Colangelo has been operating 5 fake Twitter accounts, which he's since denied, and using them to criticize NBA players, debate the decisions of his own coaching staff, and more.

It may be an off night in the NBA, but the basketball world is on fire.

A report was published on The Ringer Tuesday night that accused Philadelphia 76ers president Bryan Colangelo of operating a number of fake Twitter accounts in order to criticize NBA players, debate the decisions of his own coaching staff, and more.

Colangelo denied the allegations, telling The Ringer:

[blockquote]”Like many of my colleagues in sports, I have used social media as a means to keep up with the news. While I have never posted anything whatsoever on social media, I have used the @Phila1234567 Twitter account referenced in this story to monitor our industry and other current events. This storyline is disturbing to me on many levels, as I am not familiar with any of the other accounts that have been brought to my attention, nor do I know who is behind them or what their motives may be in using them.”[/blockquote]

76ers star Joel Embiid quickly jumped in on the drama, sending a tweet to one of Colangelo’s alleged “burner accounts.”

Embiid didn’t stop there. The 24-year-old went back and “liked” old posts from the account, all of which took a negative slant towards the all-star.

Embiid’s comments predictably took the Internet by storm.

Colangelo reportedly called Embiid and denied the allegations, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Embiid says he will believe Colangelo until it’s proven otherwise.

Known as one of the league’s biggest jokers, Embiid took to social media a few hours later, reiterating that he doesn’t believe the report.

One thing is certain: You can always count on the NBA for some high-level drama.
