Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt is back in the NBA, but in a front-office position.

Blatt has been hired by the New York Knicks as a basketball operations consultant.

“I look forward to the next step in my career as I officially retire from coaching and pursue other opportunities in basketball,” Blatt said in a statement. “I’ve long been intrigued by working in a front office and thank Steve (Mills) and Scott (Perry) for the opportunity to be a resource to the basketball operations staff.”

Blatt, 60, has spent most of his career coaching in Europe but also coached the Cavaliers from 2014 to 2016, leading them to the NBA Finals in 2015.

Most recently, Blatt was coaching Olympiacos in Greece, but he had to step away from that role in October after he was diagnosed with MS.
