Know Your Raptors ep. 11: Lucas Nogueira

Get to know Lucas Nogueira of the Toronto Raptors- why he was afraid to grab the rim, what job his dad wanted him to get, and how much of his day he spends singing.

Which Raptor would survive a zombie apocalypse? Who has the most impressive autograph collection? Did Luis Scola get emotional at the end of Fast & Furious 7? (Hint: hell yes). Why is Terrence Ross singing Alice Cooper? Every day until the season starts, a new player steps in front of the lens and answers the tough questions so you can get to know your Toronto Raptors. Up next, Lucas Nogueira has plans for the zombie apocalypse.

In the six games Lucas Nogueira came off the bench last season, you couldn’t help but be drawn to him. He sports an infectious smile and a mountain of hair sprouting out in every direction that challenges Bruno Caboclo’s wingspan in sheer length.

Plans for Nogueira this season aren’t exactly clear, given that he’s third on the Raptors depth chart at centre and Jonas Valanciunas hopes to factor more prominently in the team’s offense. But there’s room for Nogueira to develop this season. The Raptors seem to have some faith in him after exercising their option on his rookie contract this summer. What he showed off in the summer league, including heightened instincts on the court after dealing with recent injuries, impressed many. There’s clearly upside to the 16th overall pick of the 2013 draft: we’ll just have to wait a little longer for it to materialize.

According to his Twitter feed, he spent time this summer repping for Tourism Ontario in Brazil and clearly has a love for the city of Toronto. Which is good, considering he figures to be a mainstay for Raptors 905.
