Former No. 1 overall draft pick Greg Oden has decided that he will attempt a comeback next season according to ESPN.com.
Oden, who had the latest in a strong of knee surgeries just over a year ago, is said to have been contacted by a number of teams about signing a multi-year contract before season’s end which would place him on a team’s roster as he continues his rehabilitation.
Sources told the web site that the Miami Heat are leading the charge of teams that are keeping an eye on Oden during his recovery.
The Heat have roster openings but even a deal which would pay Oden the veteran’s minimum would prove costly for the franchise as it is already far above the lusury tax threshold.
Oden, who has not played an NBA game since Dec. 5, 2009, underwent his third microfracture surgery in February 2012.
Oden was selected first overall by Portland in the 2007 NBA draft but only appeared in 82 games for the Trail Blazers.
