NBA All-Star Saturday Night has come and gone, and as usual there was no shortage of highlights.
The evening could’ve gone better for Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry, who was eliminated in the first playoff of the Skills Competition, but the night belonged to Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine who electrified the crowd with a Vince Carter-esque performance in the slam dunk competition.
In case you missed it, here’s everything from Saturday that you need to see.
SPACE JAM!!!
When you come out to the theme song of arguably the greatest sports movie of all time, accompanied by the actual dudes who made the track and rock the “Toon Squad” jersey, you’ve already pretty much won the competition. But to throw down a through-the-legs masterpiece after all the theatrics? Well, you pretty much just win at life.
The Space Walk
While it’s actually impossible to follow up on Space Jam, LaVine’s second dunk was no less impressive as he goes behind the back while looking like he’s taking a leisurely stroll on the moon.
Meh … if you’re Zach LaVine
I hope you’re happy, Zach! Your first two dunks were so awesome we can’t even fully appreciate a right-hand-to-left hand between-the-legs beauty anymore.
Game Over
Not a bad way to cap off the best slam dunk performance since Jason Richardson in 2002.
A 540!
Oh, just to let you know there were three other competitors in the dunk contest. This was Victor Oladipo’s first dunk, an incredible 540 that took him three tries to lay down and was completely overshadowed by what the Toon Squad superstar was doing for the rest of the night.
Steph Curry was hot fire
Believe it or not there were other events besides LaVine assaulting the rim. The most competitive was the three-point shootout that saw Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry beat out 2013 champ Kyrie Irving and his fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson with an outrageous score of 27, the highest single-round score in the contest ever.
