TORONTO — The Toronto Raptors are sending first-round draft pick Ed Davis to the Erie BayHawks of the Development League for a short rehabilitation and conditioning stint.

Davis has been cleared to resume playing after tearing the meniscus in his right knee before training camp started. He will remain on the Raptors roster, but will be placed on the inactive list.

"This is a great opportunity for us to gauge where Ed is physically with regard to his knee and his overall basketball conditioning," Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said in a release Monday. "This is a perfect example where the D-League can be used as a ready-made and convenient tool in getting an injured player back on the court."

Davis, a 21-year-old forward, was the 13th overall pick by the Raptors last summer.

The six-foot-10, 225-pounder from the University of North Carolina averaged 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League.
