It was the laugh heard around the entire NBA social media world — which may or may not be flat depending on which day you speak to Kyrie Irving.
In his first appearance with the media last week since being traded to the Toronto Raptors, the notoriously soft-spoken and aloof Kawhi Leonard claimed to be a “fun guy,” and then gave us what might just be the moment of the entire Raptors’ pre-season.
Starting off in what has become his very familiar deep baritone, Leonard’s chuckle then rose in cadence to almost an alto before fading again.
It was surprising, kind of odd and, most importantly, very meme worthy.
Despite all the jokes, however, Leonard is completely unfazed by the chatter, mainly because he doesn’t even use social media to begin with.
“I don’t really know what people were thinking because I don’t have social media and I don’t read what people say, but it’s not surprising,” he told reporters in Utah before the Raptors’ pre-season matchup against the Jazz Tuesday.
He also offered, because of his status as one the NBA’s elite players, that noise like that is just part of the gig and is no big deal.
“When you’re at this high calibre of player people tend to look at everything you do,” he said. “It just comes with the territory.”
So, as far as Leonard’s concerned the way the internet reacted to his unique laugh probably never really happened.
