The Portland Trail Blazers have waived forward/centre Pau Gasol after he was unable to successfully rehab his left foot after surgery, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski reports that the Blazers and Gasol are working toward shifting the veteran big man into a coaching role as the 39-year-old remains in Portland to get back to full health.
The Blazers had protections in a one-year deal signed with Gasol in the off-season.
Gasol averaged 17.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.58 blocks in 1,226 games over 18 seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks.
The seven-footer is a two-time NBA champion and six-time all-star.
