After six all-star seasons and two championships, Chris Bosh‘s tenure with the Miami Heat appears to be over.

The two sides are nearing an agreement that will give the Heat between $14 million and $37 million in cap relief, according to a report from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

The 33-year-old last played on Feb. 9, 2016 before he was sidelined with blood clot issues. Bosh attempted a come back to start the 2016-17 season but was not cleared to play after Heat doctors reviewed his blood test results.

Bosh is owed $52 million over the next two seasons. The new CBA, which takes effect on July 1, contains new policies regarding potentially life-threatening medical conditions that are expected to remove Bosh’s contract from the Heat’s salary books.

This arrangement has taken months to come to fruition because the current CBA has different rules on evaluating player’s health.

If the deal goes through, Bosh will become a free agent and he’s made it clear he hopes to return to NBA action at some point.

The current rules suggest that if Bosh plays 25 games with another team, the Heat would be forced to pay the $52 million plus potential tax fees.

Windhorst wrote that those rules were something that the Heat were motivated to work out in their discussions with the Bosh camp.

The new CBA states a player with potentially life-threatening medical conditions must be cleared to play by a panel of doctors selected by the league.
