While the Toronto Raptors and their fans are focused on the team’s quest to their first NBA title, the pending free agency of all-star Kawhi Leonard still hovers over the club.
While recruiting players outside of free agency is technically illegal, that hasn’t stopped LeBron James from reaching out to Leonard and Jimmy Butler about potentially joining the L.A. Lakers, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
“From what I understand is that (James) has already begun the recruiting process,” Windhorst said on ESPN’s Pardon The Interruption Thursday. “I’ve heard that he’s had contact with Kawhi Leonard, I’ve heard he’s had contact with Jimmy Butler.
“LeBron is Tamperer in Chief for the Lakers right now.”
James isn’t the only one pitching Leonard in recent days. The second-team All-NBA and All-Defence star has been offered a free multi-million dollar penthouse and free food for life from a local restaurant in recent days.
It’s unclear if James is offering food or a place to live in his pitch.
