The Toronto Raptors aren’t wasting any time in rewarding Dwane Casey in the wake of the team’s best season in franchise history.
Extension talks are underway and, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the team is optimistic a new deal could get done by the end of the week.
Since taking over as coach of the Raptors in June 2011, Casey has accumulated a 210-184 record culminating in a 56-26 tally this season and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.
“Coach Casey’s our coach for the future,” Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri said of the franchise’s winningest coach Monday at the team’s season-ending press conference. “That’s very easy for us to figure out. That will be done in our sleep.”
Casey signed a three-year contract extension following the conclusion of the 2013-14 season, which includes a team option for 2016-17.
