The Toronto Raptors have inked centre Bismack Biyombo to a two-year, $6-million deal, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Biyombo was taken seventh overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2011 draft and although he isn’t much of a threat offensively (he’s averaging 4.4 points per game for his career), he is a strong rim-protector, as his 1.6 blocks per game career average denotes.
Last season Biyombo averaged 4.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game on 54.3 percent shooting. A knee injury and a broken nose limited him to just 64 games played. He also played just 19.4 minutes per game, but his per-36 minutes numbers forecast a more productive player with averages of 8.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.9 blocks last season.
The 22-year-old became an unrestricted free agent when the Hornets decided against offering him a qualifying offer for the 2015-16 season.
Toronto has had a busy off-season so far recently coming to an agreement with DeMarre Carroll, and drafting and signing Delon Wright while also trading Greivis Vasquez on draft night.
Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun is reporting that the deal did not touch any of the Raptors’ cap space, so general manager Masai Ujiri may not be done yet.
