As DeMar DeRozan prepares for his first NBA season outside of Toronto, at least one San Antonio Spurs fan is ensuring he feels the love in his new home.
While the shooting guard, who was traded to the Spurs in the blockbuster deal that saw Kawhi Leonard Raptors-bound last month, has yet to make his mark on the court, DeRozan’s likeness has already joined some of the best to represent the Spurs in a mural created by local artist Nik Soupé.
Soupé posted his latest masterpiece to Instagram on Thursday:
“Worked on this @demar_derozan piece last night,” Soupé wrote in the caption on Instagram. “It’s been an interesting year here in @spurs county. We lost some kats … we gained some kats. … really looking forward to this coming season!!”
The painting is part of a larger mural adorning the outer walls of a local restaurant, Rudy’s Seafood, a family-run joint that’s been on the south side of San Antonio for more than 50 years. According to an earlier post, the restaurant’s owner offered up its exterior as a blank canvas for Soupé to paint, and the results are pretty incredible.
The gorgeous mural also includes Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and particularly stunning depictions of Manu Ginobli and head coach Gregg Popovich.
