Carla Esparza wasn’t just the favourite to win TUF 20 heading into the show. She was the former Invicta FC strawweight champion and arguably the best fighter in the women’s 115-pound division.
She was ranked No. 1 out of the 16 competitors on TUF 20 and expected to walk through No. 16-ranked Angela Hill in their opening-round matchup on episode four.
That’s exactly what happened.

Esparza (9-2) quickly took Hill (1-0) down, took her back and began working for a rear-naked choke. Hill adamantly tried to defend herself, but Esparza was too persistent and locked it up to force the tap.
“I went out there and I did my thing,” Esparza said after her win.
Team Pettis is now 4-0.
On the next episode… Team Pettis chose for No. 6-ranked Felice Herrig to face No. 11-ranked Heather Clark of Team Melendez.
