UFC superstar Ronda Rousey is known as one of the most intense athletes on the planet, but things got slightly out of hand with her opponent, Holly Holm, at the UFC 193 weigh-ins Friday.
After all 26 fighters competing on the card successfully made weight — including co-headliners Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Canadian Valerie Letourneau — Rousey and Holm came face to face for the standard pre-fight square off.
Rousey (12-0) rushed off the scale towards the mild-mannered Holm, got in her face and Holm didn’t back down.
UFC president Dana White had to separate the two fighters.
“I just wanted to get in her face and show her that I was there for a reason,” Rousey told UFC commentator Joe Rogan after the altercation. “She’s the one that put the fist on my face, I didn’t touch her, she’s the one that touched me. I told her that fake, sweet act — I see right through it. It was all fake. All until now. All that respect all that everything, all you being sweet, I see right now that it’s fake and you’re going to get it on Sunday (Saturday night in North America).
“You’re not the first person that thought you had the perfect plan to beat me. It’s not the first time your camp thought that they had the perfect plan to beat me. I’m going to show you on Sunday why I’m the champ.”
Holm (9-0) is a former boxing world champion that made the transition to MMA in 2011. She is 2-0 in the UFC and a +1200 underdog.
“I’m here and that’s right, I am here to shock the world,” Holm told Rogan. “I know I have my hands full with Ronda. I have all the respect for her in the world…She’s run through everybody, but I’m a different fighter.”
