2024 has been a pretty good year to be in the Brissett family.
Earlier this year, NBA forward and Canadian basketball star Oshae Brissett won the Larry O'Brien trophy with the Boston Celtics, but now, his brother Dejon Brissett will be able to show off some new hardware at family dinners.
After scoring a key fourth-quarter touchdown and racking up 45 yards on three catches in Sunday's Grey Cup, Dejon was named the game's Most Outstanding Canadian in the Toronto Argonauts' 41-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Although he was already a Grey Cup champ with the Argonauts from their 2022 win, Brissett didn't feature prominently in that victory, so given the chance to star in the 111th edition of the CFL's title game, Brissett rose to the occasion.
"It means everything. My family's in the stands," Brissett said, pointing to his Mom, Dad, brother, sister and friends while accepting the award. "It's everything. We did this for Toronto."
The 28-year-old's big catch came with the Argonauts up 17-16 in the fourth quarter. The Mississauga, Ont. native found some space over the middle of the field, just past the goal line, and hauled in a 17-yard pass from Nick Arbuckle to pull away even further from the Blue Bombers.
"The guys in the locker room," Brissett said of why Toronto continues to get the best of Winnipeg. "(Argos coach Ryan Dinwiddie) talked about it every single week. We're the only ones that matter. We believe in one another. We do it for each other. Offence, defence, special teams, we're all one unit, and we played like that tonight."
A first-round pick of the Argos in 2020, Brissett appeared in nine games in 2024, collecting 171 yards on 14 receptions while adding three touchdowns.
