The Edmonton Elks unveiled Alberta businessman Larry Thompson as the team's new private owner on Thursday.
Thompson becomes the first private owner in franchise history.
“Since I started going to Eskimos games at Clarke Stadium in 1972 I’ve loved this team,” Thompson said in a release. “My family and I can’t wait to bring our passion for the team to the table as owners and build on the club’s proud history of excellence.”
The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers are now the CFL's only community-owned franchises.
The Elks (2-7) are last in the West Division but have won back-to-back games for their first wins of the season.
Edmonton fired head coach and general manager Chris Jones after a 0-5 start to the 2024 campaign.
The Elks haven't made the playoffs since 2019.
