B.C Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke has been named the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian for the 2022 season.
Rourke beat out Toronto Argonauts receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. who was the East nominee for the award, which was handed out in Regina Thursday night.
The 24-year-old took the league by storm throwing for 3,349 yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions but had his season cut short with a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot. He also had 304 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
It is the second straight season that a Lions player has been named the Most Outstanding Canadian, with Bo Lokombo earning the honour in 2021.
The question now is whether Rourke will return to the CFL as he has lined up a number of workouts with NFL teams.
“I never had a true opportunity at the NFL level, not as a quarterback. And that’s always been something that I’ve wanted to at least try for a very long time,” Rourke told reporters Tuesday.
“I’m fortunate to have an opportunity and see where that goes and understand that I have a heck of an opportunity still here with the Lions. And so, to me, it’s a win-win, really.”
