The Ottawa Redblacks and Jeremiah Masoli were dealt a blow Monday with the team announcing that the starting quarterback will officially miss the remainder of the 2023 CFL season with a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
A year to the day from suffering a season-ending leg injury against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Masoli was once again helped off the field with a lower-body injury Saturday against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Masoli went down with a non-contact injury after attempting to escape a collapsing pocket.
The Redblacks quickly ruled Masoli out for the remainder of the contest, which they would lose 21-13.
It's a disastrous setback for the 34-year-old quarterback who was hoping to regain his 2018 form when he earned the East Division's outstanding player nomination while playing with the Tiger-Cats.
The Redblacks will most likely turn the starting job over to Dustin Crum who came on in relief of Masoli on Saturday.
