Stampeders sign NFL veteran quarterback P.J. Walker to practice roster

The Calgary Stampeders have inked a quarterback with NFL starting experience to try to solve their problems at the most important position on the field.

Former Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns quarterback P.J. Walker is now a member of the Stamps’ practice roster after signing Tuesday, the CFL’s last-place club announced.

Walker, 29, is 5-4 as an NFL starter, with seven starts coming with the Panthers from 2020-22 and two last year with the Cleveland Browns.

The Seattle Seahawks cut the five-foot-11 Walker after training camp this year.

Walker’s NFL stats are not great. He has completed just 54.6 per cent of his passes and has six touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

The undrafted Temple product broke into the NFL after leading the XFL in passing in 2020 with Houston.

The Stamps have struggled all season with Jake Maier starting all but one game at quarterback. The team has been eliminated from playoff contention.
