Mike Weir and John Daly are among 10 PGA Tour major winners announced Tuesday who will take part in the Rogers Charity Classic at Calgary's Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club.
Weir, from Brights Grove, Ont., became the first Canadian to win a major when he captured the 2003 Masters. One of the most colourful characters on and off the course, Daly won the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 Open Championship.
Major champions Mark Calcavecchia, Darren Clarke, David Duval, Lee Janzen, Tom Lehman, Corey Pavin, David Toms and Y.E. Yang will also compete in the event.
Weir, who won eight PGA Tour events in his career, has also claimed the 2021 Insperity Invitational on the Tour Champions circuit.
“This is one of the premier events on the PGA Tour Champions, and I always really look forward to playing in Canada," Weir said in a release. "All of the players really love it. When we get closer to the event, the chatter in the locker room increases, and I know the guys are looking forward to getting up there, and that goes without saying for me to come home, see family and friends."
"I’ve been lucky enough to win in Vancouver at the Air Canada Championship on the PGA Tour," added Weir, whose best finish in Calgary was a tie for ninth in 2021. "It’s very special when you win at home. I’d love to play well in Calgary and put myself into contention.”
Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal and Vijay Singh were previously announced for the 78-man field.
“I’ve always said, I’ve got the greatest fans in the world, and Calgary is no different," Daly said. "No matter what, through thick and thin, they’ve always stuck by me.
“This tournament always has huge galleries. There is nothing better than getting it going and having the fans get loud and crazy. That’s just the way I like them so I’m looking forward to getting up to Canada, and hopefully give the fans something to get loud about.”
The Rogers Charity Classic tees off Aug. 14-18.
