Seven-time Grand Slam men’s champion Brad Jacobs is returning to the series.
Jacobs, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., will sub at third on Reid Carruthers’ Winnipeg-based team for the remainder of Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling events for the 2022-23 season.
Team Carruthers made the announcement Monday, a week after mutually parting ways with third Jason Gunnlaugson.
The 37-year-old Jacobs, who also captured the Brier in 2013 and Olympic gold in 2014 as a skip, announced he was taking a hiatus from the sport following the end of last season.
Jacobs will join Team Carruthers for the Co-op Canadian Open, running Jan. 10-15, 2023, at Encana Arena in Camrose, Alta.
Team Carruthers, who are No. 11 on the year-to-date world rankings, must maintain their spot among the top 12 in order to receive an invitation to the Princess Auto Players’ Championship, April 11-16, at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre.
The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season concludes with the KIOTI Tractor Champions Cup, May 2-7, at Regina’s Co-Operators Centre.
Carruthers, second Derek Samagalski and lead Connor Njegovan are continuing their search for a third to join them for the Manitoba provincial championship as Jacobs already has a team lineup to compete in Northern Ontario playdowns.
