NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. — Canada’s Brad Gushue and his team are the kings of consistency in the Grand Slam of Curling.
Not only has Gushue qualified for the playoffs in 27 consecutive tournaments in the series but he’s made it to at least the semifinals in 16 of the past 17 events.
The St. John’s, N.L., crew secured its latest trip to the final four Saturday after eliminating Winnipeg’s Team Reid Carruthers 7-2 in the HearingLife Tour Challenge men’s quarterfinals at the Gale Centre.
Gushue will go up against fellow Canadian club Team Brendan Bottcher from Calgary in the semifinals. Bottcher beat Switzerland’s Team Yannick Schwaller 5-3 to advance.
The other side of the bracket sees Italy’s Team Joël Retornaz and Scotland’s Team Ross Whyte square off.
Retornaz knocked out Sweden’s Team Niklas Edin 6-2 and Whyte eliminated Canada’s Team Matt Dunstone 8-3.
Earlier, Canada’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes defeated South Korea’s Team Eun-Ji Gim 7-4, Canada’s Team Kerri Einarson beat Italy’s Team Stefania Constantini 7-4, Canada’s Team Jennifer Jones ousted Switzerland’s Team Silvana Tirinzoni 7-4 and Sweden’s Team Anna Hasselborg swept past Scotland’s Team Rebecca Morrison 8-5 during the women’s quarterfinals.
