GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. — Team Lawes clinched a playoff berth in the HearingLife Tour Challenge with a 9-6 victory over Team Einarson during a Manitoba derby in the round-robin finale Friday night at the Coca-Cola Centre.
Skip Kaitlyn Lawes wrapped up preliminary play with a 3-1 record to qualify while counterpart Kerri Einarson finished at 2-2 but has another shot to advance via tiebreakers.
Silvana Tirinzoni's Swiss squad was the lone undefeated team finishing a 4-0 round-robin run with an 8-7 extra-end victory over South Korea's Team Kim (3-1).
Canada's Team Homan and Sweden's Team Hasselborg clinched their spots earlier and enter the quarterfinals with 3-1 records.
Switzerland's Team Keiser (2-2) beat Team Peterson of the United States 5-4 to remain in contention. Peterson went winless at 0-4.
Team Scheidegger edged Team Carey 5-4 in an all-Canadian clash. It wasn't enough for Casey Scheidegger (2-2) to stay in the mix as her team was eliminated based on draw-to-the-button shootout scores. Chelsea Carey was already eliminated and finished at 0-4.
Einarson will play Japan's Team Fujisawa, Keiser goes up against South Korea's Team Gim and Canada's Team Duncan meets Sweden's Team Wranå in the Saturday morning tiebreaker draw at 8 a.m. local time.
The HearingLife Tour Challenge is the second event of the 2022-23 Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling season.
Broadcast coverage resumes Saturday with the men's quarterfinals at 2 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. local time on Sportsnet 360, Sportsnet NOW (Canada) and Yare (international).
