World No. 1 Bruce Mouat has been selected to represent Scotland at the upcoming world men's curling championship.
British Curling made the announcement Monday despite Mouat finishing runner-up to Ross Whyte in the national championship final.
Mouat won the first three Grand Slam of Curling men's titles this season and has a 145.8-point advantage over Whyte, who is No. 4 in the world rankings.
Whyte has had a hot hand of late though claiming his first career Grand Slam title last month at the WFG Masters in Guelph, Ont. He successfully defended the Scottish curling men's championship earlier this month in Dumfries with an 8-3 victory over Mouat, who had topped the round-robin standings.
The world men's curling championship runs from March 29 to April 6 in Moose Jaw, Sask.
It'll be the sixth appearance at the worlds for Mouat, who earned gold in 2023, silver in 2021 and bronze in 2018.
Mouat missed the podium last year after losing 7-6 on a steal in an extra end to Italy's Joël Retornaz during the bronze medal game.
“We really want to top off what has been one of our best seasons as a team with a world championships,” Mouat said in a release. “To get the opportunity to do that in Canada again is pretty special and that is exactly what we are aiming for.”
Mouat will also team up with Jennifer Dodds at the world mixed doubles curling championship, April 26 to May 3, in Fredericton, N.B. The pair captured gold at the worlds in 2021 and finished fourth at the Olympics in 2022.
Dodds, who throws third stones for Rebecca Morrison's team, will handle double duty for Scotland as well. Morrison was selected to represent Scotland at the world women's curling championship, March 15-23, in Uijeongbu, South Korea.
Team Morrison, with lead Sophie Jackson handling skip duties, also finished runner-up at the national championship, losing 10-2 to Fay Henderson's team.
Morrison is ranked 18th in the world while Henderson is 25th.
