RED DEER, Alta. — It was a rematch but not a repeat between Brad Gushue and Yannick Schwaller during the Co-op Canadian Open men's quarterfinals.
Gushue and his St. John's, N.L., crew lost fell to Schwaller's Swiss squad 4-2 during Friday's round-robin finale but turned the tables with elimination on the line Saturday.
The 14-time Grand Slam men's champion Gushue scored three in the seventh for a 6-4 victory and achieved "Red Deer Redemption" at Servus Arena.
Team Gushue will now take on Team Brendan Bottcher in the semifinals after the Calgary club clipped Winnipeg's Team Matt Dunstone 7-3.
It'll be a Stirling derby on the other side of the bracket between Team Bruce Mouat and Team Ross Whyte.
Mouat advanced after holding off Team James Craik 5-4 in another all-Scottish matchup.
Whyte eliminated Team Joël Retornaz 5-4 to end the Italian club's run of consecutive Grand Slam title wins at three.
Retornaz defeated Whyte 3-2 during last month's WFG Masters men's final to complete the "hat trick."
