Chelsea Carey's curling team faces an uncertain future after third Karlee Burgess announced Thursday she is leaving the squad.
The release, posted by the team on X, says Burgess is leaving to pursue other opportunities. The team says it will make an announcement about plans in the near future.
Carey took over the Manitoba-based squad following the retirement (from the four-person game) of Jennifer Jones last season.
The team had earned an automatic berth in the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts by virtue of its finish in the rankings last season, but it's unclear if that will still hold with only two members of the team remaining. The event starts Feb. 14 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Emily Zacharias is the second and Lauren Lenentine is the lead for Team Carey. With Jones at skip, the team finished second at last year's Scotties, losing to Rachel Homan in the final.
The Carey-skipped team has made the playoffs in one of three Grand Slam events this season, losing in the quarterfinals at the Canadian Open.
Carey is a two-time Scotties champion.
