OAKVILLE, Ont. — Team Jennifer Jones clinched a spot in the WFG Masters playoffs after defeating Team Kaitlyn Lawes 7-5 during the final women’s round-robin draw Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
Both Winnipeg-based teams are moving onto the quarterfinals with 3-1 records. Jones will take on South Korea’s Team Eun-Ji Gim (3-1) while Team Lawes go up against Team Tabitha Peterson (3-1) of the United States.
Third Selena Njegovan is skipping this week as Lawes is on maternity leave. Laura Walker is subbing at third.
Elsewhere in Draw 15, Team Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Man., finished pool play at 4-0 with an 8-5 victory over Japan’s Team Satsuki Fujisawa (1-3).
Peterson advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-2 rout over Vancouver’s Team Clancy Grandy (1-3).
South Korea’s Team Eun-Jung Kim (1-3) ended things on a high note with a 6-3 win over Switzerland’s Team Raphaela Keiser (0-4).
Einarson and Ottawa’s Team Rachel Homan, who also posted a perfect 4-0 record, await the winners of tiebreakers Saturday morning.
Sweden’s Team Anna Hasselborg play Switzerland’s Team Michele Jäggi and Team Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge, Alta., clash with Winnipeg’s Team Chelsea Carey for the final two spots. All four teams finished the round-robin with 2-2 records.
