SASKATOON — Silvana Tirinzoni and her squad from Switzerland secured a spot in the WFG Masters playoffs with a tight 3-2 extra-end victory over Winnipeg’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes during Draw 13 Friday morning.
Tirinzoni wrapped up round-robin play with a 3-1 record to advance.
Lawes (2-2) must await the results of the final women’s draw to find out her team’s fate.
Elsewhere, Team Eun-Jung Kim of South Korea scored two in an extra end to edge Ottawa’s Team Rachel Homan 8-6 to finish things on a high note.
Kim stays in contention with a 2-2 record while Homan (3-1) had already clinched a berth in the quarterfinals.
Team Isabella Wranå of Sweden drew level to a 2-2 record to remain in the mix, for now, by defeating Vancouver’s Team Clancy Grandy 9-3.
Grandy was eliminated with a 1-3 record.
Scotland’s Team Rebecca Morrison (1-3) ended on a positive note with a 5-4 extra-end win over Sweden’s Team Hasselborg (2-2).

The WFG Masters is the third Grand Slam of Curling event of the season, featuring 16 of the top men’s teams and 16 of the top women’s teams from around the world. … Round-robin play runs through to Friday evening. The top eight teams in both divisions advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals. If necessary, tiebreakers will be played Saturday morning to determine the final playoff spots. … The semifinals are also scheduled for Saturday with both finals on tap Sunday.
