NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. — Switzerland’s Team Silvana Tirinzoni scored a 6-5 victory Tuesday afternoon over Norway’s Team Marianne Roervik to open in the win column at the HearingLife Tour Challenge.
It was a repeat of last season’s world championship final where Tirinzoni topped Roervik to win a fourth consecutive gold medal.
Tirinzoni broke a 1-all tie with a three-ender in the third. The teams traded single points in the fourth and fifth ends and Tirinzoni stole one in the sixth to hold a 6-2 advantage.
Roervik cut the deficit in half with a deuce in the seventh and sat two counters in the final frame, but Team Tirinzoni's fourth Alina Paetz just needed an open hit on one of them to secure the victory.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Morrison and her Scottish squad were victorious in their Grand Slam of Curling debut with a 7-1 win over Japan’s Team Satsuki Fujisawa. Morrison opened the scoring with a three-ender in the second and bookended the match with a steal of three in the seventh.
Fujisawa was missing second Yumi Suzuki with the team playing as a trio.
Sweden’s Team Isabella Wrana slipped past Canada’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes 8-7 in an extra end and South Korea’s Team Eun-Ji Gim earned a 7-4 win over Team Tabitha Peterson of the United States.
