Bruce Mouat and his Scottish squad picked up where they left off from last season to capture the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard.
Mouat, who won back-to-back Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling championships in April, stole single points in the seventh and eighth ends to beat Brad Jacobs and his Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., crew 5-3 in Monday’s final at the Oakville Curling Club.
The team of Mouat, third Grant Hardie, second Bobby Lammie and lead Hammy McMillan Jr. kicked off their tour season finishing the event with an unblemished 6-0 record including a 7-3 win over Winnipeg’s Team Gunnlaugson in the quarter-finals and a 5-3 victory over Regina’s Team Dunstone in the semifinals earlier Monday.
Jacobs, third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden finished with a 5-1 record and were looking to add another title to their case after claiming the Oakville Labour Day Classic the previous weekend on the very same ice.
Hollie Duncan’s team (Woodstock, Ont.) beat Kerry Galusha’s team (Yellowknife) 7-3 for the women’s title Sunday night.
