Bottcher reaches AB Boston Pizza Cup playoffs

Brendan Bottcher has made the playoffs at the Alberta Boston Pizza Cup (Anil Mungal).

Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher qualified for the Boston Pizza Cup playoffs with a 7-3 win in nine ends over Jamie King of St. Albert Friday night in Wainwright, Alta.

Bottcher opened the B-final blanking the first before scoring a single in the second and stealing a point in three for a 2-0 lead. King took one in the fourth and Bottcher added a deuce in five to go up 4-1.

King was held to another single point in six and Bottcher scored two again in the seventh to make it 6-2. The rinks traded singles through eight and nine.

Bottcher is off to the page playoff A-vs-B game and faces Calgary’s Kevin Koe.

King drops to the C-bracket finals and plays Mick Lizmore, who earned a 7-1 win over Daylan Vavrek.

Aaron Sluchinski knocked out Brock Virtue with a 9-1 rout to make the other C-final game where he takes on Matthew Blandford, who eliminated Tom Sallows 8-5.
