MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Northern Ontario’s Tracy Horgan beat Sarah Koltun of the Yukon 7-5 to book a spot in the qualification final at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Horgan scored a deuce in the eighth end and held on for the victory in today’s early game at Mosaic Place.

She opened the qualification round Thursday night with a 10-5 win over Kerry Galusha of the Northwest Territories.

Galusha and Horgan will play in the afternoon game with the winner to meet Horgan on Saturday afternoon with the final spot in the 12-team main draw on the line.

This is the first year that a qualification round is being used at the national women’s curling championship.

With Horgan’s victory, there will not be a need for a qualification tiebreaker. If all three rinks had finished the round robin at 1-1, one team would have been eliminated based on results of draws to the button.
