SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs scored three in the extra end to lift his rink to a 7-4 victory over Sweden’s Niklas Edin in Draw 8 action at the Players’ Championship.
Jacobs trailed 3-0 early after Edin scored one in the first and stole singles in the second and third ends. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., rink rallied back for a deuce in the fourth and earned a steal of one in the fifth to tie it 3-3. Jacobs stole another point in the seventh but Edin tied it 4-4 with a point in the eighth.
The win improved Jacobs’s team to a 2-1 record while Edin is now 2-2 at the Grand Slam of Curling event.
Elsewhere, Calgary’s Kevin Koe (3-0) scored a three-ender in the seventh and stole two in the eighth to top Brad Gushue 9-6 and hand the St. John’s, N.L., team their first loss of the tournament. Gushue is now 3-1 at the Players’.
Scotland’s David Murdoch (1-2) scored a single in the seventh and stole one in the eighth to win 6-4 over Glenn Howard. The loss dropped Howard’s team from Penetanguishene, Ont., to a 1-3 record.
Toronto’s John Epping defeated Switzerland’s Sven Michel 6-2 in seven ends. Epping (2-1) pulled ahead early with a three-ender in the first followed by a steal of one in the second. Michel’s team fell to an 0-4 record with the loss.
In the women’s division, Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin (1-3) scored a single in the final end to win 5-4 over Switzerland’s Michele Jaggi (1-3).
