Sven Michel scored two in the sixth and stole a pair in the seventh in a 7-3 win over Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen during Draw 4 at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Masters event on Wednesday in Abbotsford, B.C.
McEwen had tied it up 3-3 with a single in the fourth and a steal of one in the fifth. The 2010 Masters champion lost to Scotland’s David Murdoch 5-4 in the opening draw on Tuesday night and is now 0-2 in the tournament.
Michel defeated Moscow’s Andrey Drozdov 8-3 in the morning draw and opened the scoring against McEwen with a deuce. The two rinks traded singles in the second and third ends.

Elsewhere, defending champion Kevin Koe beat New Zealand’s Peter De Boer 5-2 in seven ends. The Edmonton rink scored two in the opening end, stole one in the second and added singles in the fifth and seventh.
In women’s action, Switzerland’s Mirjam Ott earned a steal of one in the second and scored a double in the fourth in a 4-2 victory over Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton. Ott blanked the seventh to retain the hammer for the final end and added an insurance marker to seal the win.
South Korea’s Ji-Sun Kim needed only a single in the eighth to edge Winnipeg’s Chelsea Carey 6-5. Kim blanked the first end and scored a deuce in the second. The rinks exchanged singles in the third and fourth and pairs of points through the fifth and sixth ends. Carey tied it 5-5 with a deuce in the seventh.
Sweden’s Margaretha Sigfridsson scored two in the eighth to win 4-3 over China’s Bingyu Wang.
