Muirhead edges Middaugh in extras at GSOC Masters

Reigning world champion Eve Muirhead scored one in the extra end to edge Sherry Middaugh 8-7 during Draw 5 action at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Masters event in Abbotsford, B.C.

Muirhead scored three deuces and led 7-3 until Middaugh, from Coldwater, Ont., rallied to tie it with a single in the sixth and steals of two in the seventh and one in the eighth.

Both rinks are now 1-1 in the tournament.

Elsewhere, Moscow’s Anna Sidorova improved to 2-0 at the tournament with a 6-4 win over Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones. Sidorova scored two in the fifth and stole one in the sixth to pull ahead 5-2. Jones earned a deuce in the seventh but couldn’t get a steal in the final end to tie it.

Jones won her opening draw match 11-5 against South Korea’s Ji-Sun Kim on Tuesday night.
