Spain’s Rodri was named the Player of the Tournament at the 2024 European Championship on Sunday despite being pulled from the Final at halftime with an injury.
Lamine Yamal, who celebrated his 17th birthday on Sunday, was handed the Best Young Player of the Tournament award following his instrumental performance at his first-ever major tournament.
Yamal recorded an assist on Nico Williams’ go-ahead tally in the 47th minute of Sunday’s final to finish the tournament with four assists and tie the record for the most helpers at the European Championship.
Rodri, 28, was a catalyst in Spain’s defensive unit that yielded a 2-1 win over England in Berlin.
The Manchester City product registered a goal in the tournament and was one of Spain’s most influential leaders on the pitch, extending his unbeaten run with Spain to 474 days with the win.
Dani Olmo also collected some hardware for Spain, winning the Golden Boot award after finishing with three goals at the Euros. Though the tally tied him with five other players including England’s Harry Kane, being on the winning team gives him the award by technicality.
Spain capped off a perfect 7-0-0 record at the 2024 European Championship with a record fourth tournament victory on Sunday. The team beat Georgia, Germany, France and England to officially etch their name into European history.
