WINNIPEG — An architect being sued by the owners of the stadium where the Winnipeg Blue Bombers play has filed a statement of defence.
Ray Wan denies responsibility for dozens of alleged design and construction deficiencies at the venue.
The $200-million stadium opened in 2013 and is to be the site for this fall’s Canadian Football League Grey Cup game.
It has been plagued by leaky luxury suite roofs, poor drainage and insufficient insulation to keep plumbing operational in winter.
Wan claims in his statement of defence that owners Triple B Stadium asked only for a two- to three-season stadium to be constructed.
The owners are also suing the builder, Stuart Olson Construction.
Triple B represents the city, the province, the University of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Football Club. It alleges that Wan and Stuart Olson are responsible for 42 "operational and design defects" that include slopes that drain water into the building, the absence of winterization and weak concrete slabs.
Stuart Olson has said in its statement of defence that the provincial government put on a rush to have Investors Group Field completed.
