Spiderman may be able to do whatever a spider can, but a player in the Canadian Football League can’t.

The CFL fined Argo receiver Arland Bruce an undisclosed fine on Monday by taking off his helmet on Monday after scoring a touchdown against Hamilton and donning his son’s Spiderman mask.

According to a statement issued by the League, Bruce used a prop to celebrate his touchdown. Bruce’s act earned his team an immediate 10-yard penalty for delay of game.

The CFL fined Bruce by citing Rule 7 in the category of Fouls & Penalties, and Section 4 pertaining to objectionable conduct, which prohibits a player to be in possession of a foreign or extraneous object that is not part of the uniform or equipment, during a game, either on the field or on the sideline.”

The maximum amount a player can be fined is $1,000.

An Argo spokesperson said the team is “aware of the fine and respect the league’s decision.” The spokesperson said Bruce will review his options on Wednesday.

Bruce wore the mask to have some fun.

Argo head coach Rich Stubler told reporters on Tuesday he didn’t see what Bruce did.

“I laughed, but it cost us 10 yards,” he said.

When asked if he was bothered by what Bruce did, Stubler said: “No, the game’s fun.”

Bruce talked to Stubler after returning to the sideline and gave the coach a peck on the cheek.

Stubler was incensed that one of his players, Dominique Dorsey, was hit in the head by a balloon filled with beer thrown by someone in the stands.

“It should be a fine,” he said. “They should have better crowd control. I’d like to see the guy (who threw it) prosecuted, either that or he can never go to a game. Let’s put some teeth into it. It’s outside the boundries of sport.”

Stubler said the team has reported the incident to the League.
