EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos released kicker/punter Hugh O’Neill on Wednesday.

The six-foot-two, 185-pound Edmonton native signed with the Eskimos as a free agent Aug. 19, 2013 and made 31-of-42 attempted field goals while adding 48 converts with the CFL club.

O’Neill took over kicking and punting duties after incumbent Grant Shaw sustained a season-ending chest injury in Edmonton’s 28-13 Labour Day loss to Calgary. The 25-year-old ended up making 20-of-26 field goals and 26 converts while boasting a 44.4-yard punting average.

O’Neill was drafted in the second round, No. 11 overall, by the B.C. Lions in 2011 out of the University of Alberta and made 4-of-5 attempted field goals before being released Aug. 16 2013.
