Ottawa council approves new CFL stadium plan

Ottawa city council has approved plans for a new stadium to be built to pave the way for the return of the CFL to the nation’s capital.

Council members met Monday night and voted 15-9 in favour of moving forward with the plan by Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group to build at Lansdowne Park.

The hope is for CFL football to return to the city for the 2013 season.

The league has been without a team in Ottawa since 2006, when the Renegades folded after four seasons.
