As the NFL trade deadline looms, one name has been front and centre: Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson.
According to a report earlier this week from NFL insider Adam Schefter, the All-Pro pass defender “desperately” wants to be traded out of Arizona as the one-win club continues to struggle through the 2018-19 season.
Peterson, however, released a statement via Twitter on Wednesday that suggests otherwise. In the statement, Peterson acknowledges his frustration with the dismal season but says his focus is “on being part of the solution [and] helping us turn this around.”
So, what can we take away from this statement? Depending on how you read it, it could be interpreted as Peterson effectively rescinding the trade request he reportedly made to management. On the other hand, it could also simply ease some of the heat he’s probably taking from a fanbase that’s likely feeling almost as frustrated as he is about the 1-6 season.
Schefter chimed in with some valuable context about the statement, saying Peterson had a successful meeting with management about the whole (short-lived) saga.
If he is still in fact on the market, there should be plenty of interest in the dynamic CB, who would instantly make a team dangerous — especially one already considered a contender, like the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots or even Minnesota Vikings. (The New Orleans Saints were thought to have been a good trade partner here, but instead acquired Eli Apple from the New York Giants on Tuesday.)
Speculation will likely continue until the trade deadline officially passes at 4 p.m. ET on Oct. 30.
