The Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles both enter Sunday’s game in Philadelphia on hot streaks but the computer says the Cards will extend theirs while the Eagles will see theirs snapped.
Arizona is 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread over its last four games while Philadelphia is coming out of its bye with a 3-0 straight up and against-the-spread record over its last three games. One of these winning streaks will come to an end on Sunday.
While sportsbooks such as Bodog are making Philadelphia a three-point favourite at home, the computers are predicting that it will be the Cardinals that come out on top of this intriguing matchup 23.9 to 22.6. If that Week 13 NFL trend holds up, the result would extend Arizona’s streak to 4-0 straight up and against the spread versus the Eagles.
If Philly’s recent string of covers (9-3 against the spread) in 12 seasons after a bye week holds up, it will be the Eagles keeping pace with Dallas atop the NFC East.
The Houston Texans’ nightmarish season continued last week with a 13-6 loss at home against Jacksonville as a 10.5-point favourite. Houston fell to 2-9 straight up and against the spread with the loss, which was its second in a row as a double-digit favourite at home.
New England enters Houston as a 7.5-point favourite, a spread that the Patriots are projected to cover by the computers with a final score of 26 to 13.6. The Patriots have never lost to Houston in five tries.
When the Denver Broncos met the Kansas City Chiefs in Denver two weeks ago, the Broncos came out on top 27-17. With the venue switching to Kansas City, the Chiefs are projected to cover the spread this time around in what could end up being the highest scoring game of the week.
Denver is picked to win 36.3 to 32.2, which would fail to cover the 5.5-point spread currently showing in the Broncos-Chiefs matchup details. The projected 68.5 points would go well over the current total of 48.5.
In an AFC South rivalry game between the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts, the computers have it as too close to call. The projected score of 21.8 to 21.7 in Tennessee’s favour is a virtual tie, but such a close game would work to Tennessee’s advantage as a four-point underdog on the road this week.
The Titans are 5-0 against the spread in their past five road games, while the Colts have two straight at home.
On Thursday, the computer blew the Packers-Lions matchup, not properly accounting for Aaron Rodgers’ absence. Both other games were picked almost exactly. Dallas beat Oakland beat Oakland by seven (the computer predicted 24-17) and Baltimore beat the Steelers 22-20, whereas the computer predicted 21-19.
