The Washington Redskins are hiring Ron Rivera to coach the team on a five-year deal, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport reports that Washington is expected to announce the deal tomorrow.
Rivera was fired by the Carolina Panthers at the beginning of December after leading the team to a 5-7 record. They finished the season 5-11 and missed the playoffs for the third time in the past four years.
Rivera is the Panthers’ all-time winningest head coach. He was hired in 2011 and compiled a 76-63-1 record in the regular season. Rivera helped lead the team to a Super Bowl appearance, an NFC championship and three NFC South titles.
The Redskins fired head coach Jay Gruden after an 0-5 start to the 2019 season, and interim coach Bill Callahan finished out the year with a 3-8 record.
