When it rains it pours for Sergio Perez.
The Mexican driver was handed a three-place grid penalty for driving back to the pits with a "significantly damaged car" during Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.
Perez will serve his penalty at the Spanish Grand Prix in two weeks time.
As teammate Max Verstappen led the race on lap 53, Perez spun out on the wet track near turn six and backed into the barrier, damaging his rear wing.
Red Bull was also fined €25,000 ($36,969 CAD) as the team instructed Perez to return to the pits, rather than park the wrecked car on the circuit, as they were hoping to avoid bringing out a safety car and potentially ruining Verstappen's victory.
Verstappen went on to claim the checkered flag for his sixth win of the season and extend his lead in the championship to 52 points over Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Perez will need to improve in qualifying in Spain in order to offset the grid penalty. He has failed to reach the final qualifying stage for the past three races and has been knocked out in the opening round during the past two.
The Canadian Grand Prix was also the second straight DNF for Perez, who also went pointless in Monaco after an opening lap crash with Haas driver Kevin Magnussen.
Perez, who is in his fourth season with Red Bull, has earned five wins since joining the team and has helped them capture the past two constructors' championships.
Despite his recent woes, Perez is fifth in the standings thanks to a strong start to the season finishing runner-up to Verstappen in three of the first four races.
He signed a two-year contract extension with Red Bull last week.
