Max Verstappen will officially have a new teammate for the 2025 F1 season.
Sergio "Checo" Perez and Red Bull Racing have officially agreed to part ways Wednesday, opening a spot next to the four-time champion.
Perez spent the past four years with Red Bull, winning five Grand Prixs and helping the team win two Constructors Championships in 2022 and '23.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the past four years with Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an amazing team," Perez said in a statement. "I'll always cherish the success we achieved together. We broke records, reached remarkable milestones, and I've had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people along the way."
The 34-year-old Mexican driver joined Red Bull Racing in 2021 and finished fourth, third, and second in the Driver's Championship. The team publically kept faith in Perez, giving him a contract extension through 2026, but his inconsistency proved costly for a team with lofty expectations.
After reaching the podium in four of the first five races of the season, Perez finished out of the points in seven of the last 19 Grands Prix. He earned only one point in the final five races — a 10th-place finish in Las Vegas.
Red Bull is reportedly replacing Perez with Liam Lawson, the 22-year-old driver for RBR's junior team, the Racing Bulls. Lawson's spot at RB is the lone empty seat for the 2025 season.
