Yuki Tsunoda will be sticking around with Visa Cash App RB after the team picked up the option on his contract.
RB made the announcement Saturday ahead of qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
The deal will keep Tsunoda with team through to the end of the 2025 season.
“I’m very happy to be staying with Visa Cash App RB and it’s a good feeling to have my future decided so early in the year,” Tsunoda said in a team release. "For that, I want to thank everyone at Red Bull and Honda who have played such an important role in my career and will continue to do so.
“The team has a big development project ahead and I’m excited to be part of it. It’s great to know that everyone appreciates all the hard work I have put in and that the team believes I can help it move further up the grid."
Tsunoda is in his fourth season with RB. His best finish is a fourth-place result achieved at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix during his rookie year.
The 24-year-old Japanese driver has scored points in five of the past six grands prix this season and is 10th in the drivers' championship with 19 points.
“The step up he has made this year is simply phenomenal, and he keeps surprising us all, race after race,” RB team principal Laurent Mekies said. "There’s no doubting his natural speed to which he has now added a much more mature approach and this combination makes him a very quick and consistent performer, and a great team player.
"We share the same ambitions, so there are several good reasons to continue our journey together. He still has a lot to give.”
The news comes the same week older sibling team Red Bull Racing announced they had signed Sergio Perez to a two-year extension. Three-time reigning world champion Max Verstappen is under contract with Red Bull Racing through to the end of 2028.
RB have yet to announce if veteran driver Daniel Ricciardo will return next season. The 34-year-old Ricciardo, who has won eight grands prix during his career, has only scored five points this season, all earned with a fourth-place result during the sprint in Miami.
