Canada's Maddie Szeryk two off clubhouse lead at CP Women's Open

Check this out, as American Emma Talley follows up her playing partner Elizabeth Szokol’s near hole-in-one, with an actual ace on the 13th hole at the CP Women’s Open.

Before Brooke Henderson hit her first shot, two Canadians got off to strong starts at the CP Women's Open in Ottawa on Thursday.

Maddie Szeryk, an LPGA Tour rookie from London, Ont., was two shots off the clubhouse lead after shooting a 4-under 67.

American Emma Talley led the way at 6 under. She had a hole-in-one on the 13th.

"It was pretty awesome," Szeryk said. "I started out hit(ting) a couple thin. I'm like, 'OK, it's fine. I hit it well in the practice round.'

"Just hit a couple really good ones, made some good putts, and it was just trying to focus on each shot. Saw my name up there and I was like, 'OK, just keep playing golf.' It was really exciting."

Amateur Lauren Zaretsky of Thornhill, Ont., had a hole-in-one on the par-3 fifth and shot 3 under.

Zaretsky, 18, won the Canadian women's amateur title last year.

Twelve-year-old Lucy Lin of Vancouver, who qualified Monday and became the youngest player in event history, shot a 3-over 74.
